When you Hit Your Lowest Point | Khutbah By Dr. Omar Suleiman
Dear brothers and sistersone of the most beautiful things aboutparadise about jannah and it is full ofbeautyand allah has prepared for itsinhabitants may allah make us amongstthemthat whichno eye has seenno ear has heardand no imagination could ever comprehendbut one of its most beautiful traitsis that it never gets oldwhat that meansis that every day when you think youhave peaked in terms of beauty it getsmore beautifulwhen you think you've seen its mostbeautiful palace allah opens up thedoors of another palacewhen you see your spouse in paradise andno one is single in paradiseyour spouse is more beautiful every timeyou see themwhen you go to its marketplaces you seethings that you didn't see the last timethe fruits taste betterevery single moment in jenna is anupgrade it gets better and better andbetter and better and allah is surelycapable of that being never ending mayallah make us its inhabitantsand no one in jannah thinks that theyhave anyone above themso that's also one of the blessings ofjannah is that you don't have the fearof missing outthe person who is in the lowest levelthinks that they must be in the highestlevel because of what allah is unveilingfor them that's the beauty of paradiseit keeps getting better and better andbetter and better blessing afterblessing after blessing after blessingthe counterpart to that is this dunyais this lifewhere sometimes you get hit by ahardshipand you think this is the hardest it'sever going to getand then something else happens andsomething else happens and somethingelse happens and something else happensand so the idea of it all falling apartand of course the way that we come in tothe way that we then age and the waythat things start towither away we lose our appetite forthis dunya and it just seems tosometimes fall apart and of coursethat's true also in the collective sensewith al-fitan with trials andtribulations they start to strike oneafter the other one after the other towhere you feel like you can't catch upon an individual level you get hit andyou think this really hurts and i thinkthat this is the hardest it's going toget and then something else happensyou look to the world and if you are anempath the believer sees a personfalling off of a plane in afghanistan oroff of a boat from libya and where doesmy heart go tohow can i encompass all of this mayallah make it easy for all of ourbrothers and sisters wherever they maybeso jannah keeps getting better dunyaseemingly at least seems to keep gettingworse and one of the things that happensto usis that sometimes it's also ourperceptionthat when one trial hits we read intothings that aren't necessarily trials asbeing trials after that or we magnifyour trials you know it's like if someoneis in a boxing ring and they get hit andthey say you know you can tell that thefighter was never the same for the restof the fight even if they managed to getback up and they managed to recover butthe effect of that hit was there and sosometimes what happens after a majortrial hits you in life you start readinginto it way more than what should beread into it and it's likeyeah allah why is it all falling apartwhat's happening why do the punches keepon comingnow what i want to talk about is thatlowest pointbecause undoubtedlythere is a point that all of us willreach that will be our lowest point andit doesn't necessarily need to be ourlowest point in terms of the severity ofthe tragedy it could be thecircumstances that we are in when thathappenssurelywhich we know was the lowest point ofthe prophet salallahu island because hesaid sothat hurt more because the prophetsalallahu did not have hadithto wipe his woundsthere's no doubt about thatthere is also a decade of rejection thatperceives thought that makes it thatmuch worseand so sometimes and that's why everytrial is unique it's the circumstancesaround it hits you at the wrong time andwrong in quotation markswrong timeand it's like yeah allah this this ishorrible i don't know how to get out ofthis i don't know how to move forwardand of course certain trials also have apermanence in regards to theconsequences in lifeyou lose someone you loveas much as you cope that person will notcome back to this earthsomething falls apart sometimes there'sa permanence to thatnow what do we doand i don't want to just talk about thisfrom the perspective of hardship as awhole i want to talk about that lowestpointand how you actuallytake that and do something with itthat's very unique because when you'reat that lowest point you know what elseyou are you're most vulnerable you'remost vulnerable in that you're mostlikely to put your ego to the side andyou can humble yourself most to allahsubhanahu ta'ala so your most vulnerablewhich has the capacity to reinvigorateyouryour prayer your reflection your worshipsometimes you see a relationship andthey say the best thing that everhappened to that relationship was thatit hit crisis and out of that crisiswe learn things certain things happenand you look back at that and you seethat was a turning point so your egogets put to the side you're humbled andwhen you're humbled you're in a perfectplace to make sujud and to cry out toallah and prostration and say ya allahi'm humbled you're also in thatvulnerability in a perfect place torethink thingsto be introspectiveto actually start to think about whatpreceded that moment and what can bedone after that momentso it's an interesting place that youfind yourself inand you have to remember that allahsubhanahu wa ta'ala doesn't give you aswamp allah gives you a springboardwhen you're in that low point you have achance to jump up there is no fall thatany of us will ever encounter than theliteral fall of adam arihi-salaam fromparadise to earthbut even then there was an elevation inhis station his maqaam his status withallah subhanahu wa ta'ala that made hisstation even greater than before he feltthe same thing with unisadi has said i'mplunging to the bottom of the oceanthat's a fallthat none of us could probablyquite come to terms with but you're inthis place where you can rethinkyou're in this place where you canreevaluate reassessand then get back somewhereor where you've actually never beenand let it be an actual better placeand the reality isthat a lot of times especially whenyou're talking about the secular sensewhen someone hits that low point theytalk about their potentialfrom that downfall in this world it'srestricted to this worldthat's the problem with a dunyawi dunyaa worldly world view it's so restrictiveit's so limited what's the maximum theycould talk about your potential comingout of that and certainly that's part ofit that there's a certain potential ofstrength and resilience that can begained from that place but when we thinkabout it we think about it also in termsof the potential of a higher place inparadisethe potential of a higher station withallahand we're taught not to necessarily wishfor the low point to achieve thatpotentialvery beautiful duaif there is a station that you havegotten people tothrough hardships and trials then allowme to reach that station without thetrialthat was his duaif you let someone reach a certainposition we read about yusufi mean the only prophet who we knowthat walked away from his peopleprematurely yet he was the first prophetthat allah revealed to the prophetsallallahu alaihi wasallam in the spiritof praisehe got back upand he elevated only by the mercy ofallah subhanahu wa ta'alaand evenis narrated to have mentioned that mostof the people that enter paradise don'tenter paradise by a good deed that theydo but by the way they responded to ahardshipa hardship came your way and there was asabbatha patiencea resilience a steadfastness that youshowed and that was the means by whichallahdelivered you to a place that youotherwise would not have been able togetthe thing is is that you don't see thatplace right nowand so sometimes it becomes hardto be able to seeoutside of where you are at the momentto be able to see light at the end ofthe tunnel to be able to see thatposition in a paradise that you can'teven imagineit's hard to imagine it it's hard tograsp it it's hard to act in accordancewith it but that's what makes it sorewardable subhanallah you get this onelifethis one life to livein this dunya that is consequential tothe rest of your eternityand there are things that happen to youone time events that happened to you inthis life and there is one moment inthat one time eventthat if you capitalize on it changesyour entire hereafterassadthat first strike you know in theprophet sawsthat patience is at the first strikeit's not as the scholars say thatpatience is only at the first strikeit's that there is a unique patience atthe first strike that if you seize thatmoment and you respond in that once in alifetime moment once in a lifetimehardship with a once-in-a-lifetimepatiencewhat does it unlock for you in thehereafterbeitula house of praise that you walk intojannah and you say ya allah for meyeah allah how did i get to this placebecause you got hitand you responded rightit's that one moment that you couldseize and you could captivateand subhanallah a lot of us are soparalyzed in that one moment may allahmake it easy for all of us i've heard alot over the last couple of years i meanit's the environment around us rightlike i don't think i'm gonna this is theworst it's ever been for me this is thehardest i don't know how i'm going torecover out of this i don't know how i'mgoing to come forward sometimes it'sself-inflicted allah didn't give you aswamp you stepped into onebut even then there's a life jacketallah subhanahu ta'ala has given you away back and you know how do i get outof this yeah how do i get out of thisbut you have to think aboutthe potential just as you arefeeling the painof the uniqueness of the hardship youhave to think about the uniqueness ofthe reward in that momentlike there's something right now that ifi doyeah allahi can achieve so muchfrom allahi can gain so much fromand allahbrothers and sistersthere are various low points that wefind in the quranand it's really interesting subhanallahthat when you go through the prophets inthe quranyou know you get aan array of experiencessometimes allah gives us a lot abouttheir tawa about their call sometimesallah gives us a lot about their peoplesometimes allah gives us a lot abouttheir circumstances but one thing that'salmost always consistentis we learn about their hardshipsalmost every prophet that allah tells usabout in the quran there is that momenti'm overwhelmedi am in need i fakir i am poor in needvulnerablefor what you would descend upon me yourblessings i'm in need of your blessingsyeah allah i'm feeling overwhelmed yeahallah i don't where do i go from here lailaha unto subhanahuhave mercy on me almost all of them whybecause pain is the universal humanexperience that we can all relate tobut that unique reward that unique placeand i want to end this because i don'twant to make this too longi want to end thisby putting you in a conversation withyour motheryour mommy momyou know it's really interesting iremember the first time doing a study ofal-bukharihow many times hadiththe slander the chapter of the slanderercomes up because there's so much it's solong when she tells her own story of howshe was slandered and the circumstancesof it and there are tangents in herstory she goes off on a tangentsometimes there is fich in there there'sjurisprudence to be learned you gothrough the books of hadith you can goone by one capture this moment capturethat moment and these gems but if you'resitting in a living room with your momand she is our motherand our mother felt a lot of painand i'm listening to my momtalk about the most painful moment inher lifewhere everything was darkness where eventhe prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallamwho was always a source of comfort toher even the prophet saws was withheldfrom comforting her in those momentsall alonedid absolutely nothing wrongandher honor is being dragged through thestreets of el medinaour momand our mother is talking to usshe's talking about the moments she'stalking about what was going through hermind she's talking about what ayat ofquran she could remember and the onesthat she couldn't she's talking abouthow she felt when people looked at herhow she felt in this conversation howshe felt in that conversationi was just paying attentionto this one sentence that she saysand she says wallahiand yunji lefti never thought that allah would revealquran for mewho am iso that allah would reveal revelationfrom the heavens for methat's your mom talking i didn't think iwas worthy of thati never would have imagined that allahsubhanahu ta'ala would reveal quran forme who am i ten verses of the quran comedown to defend mewho am i and you take the quran that thequran would speak about me i neverthoughtthat revelation would descend from theheavensfor medear brothers and sisterswe don't knowwhat comes from the heavensfor us when we're in those low pointsbut we knowthat the lord that descended thoseverses from the heavensand the lord that rescuedaand answered those prayers is the samelord that we're calling uponyouallah does not let the reward of thegood doers go to waste nor does he letthe reward of the patients go to wasteand so when you're in that moment yourbrothers and sisters and you're thinkingnow i have a windowi have a windowwhere i canreally capitalize on the rewardrememberthat there are things that would comedown from the heavens for you that youwill only see when you make it toparadiseand do not belittleyourselfto where you think that the mercy ofallah will not encompass youif our mother issaid that i never thought allah wouldreveal quran for mewho knows what allah will do for uswe ask allah to grant us patienceto grant a steadfastness to maximize ourreward to grant us the highest stationin this life to allow us to reach ourmaximum potential in this life ofpleasing him and to allow us to reachthe maximum position and station inparadise and the companionship of ourbeloved prophet sallallahu alaihiwasallam we ask allah to forgive us forour weak points to forgive us for ourshortcomings we ask allah subhanahu wata'ala to make the best of our deeds thelast of them and the best of our daysthe day that we meet him allah means foreign you.
