We begin by praising allah and bybearing witness
that none has the rightto be worshipped or unconditionallyobeyed except for him
and we bearwitness that muhammad sallallahu alaihiwasallam is his final
messenger we askallah to send his peace and blessingsupon him the prophets and
messengersthat came before him his family andcompanions that served alongside
him andthose that follow in his blessed pathuntil the day of judgment and we
askallah to make us amongst them i meandear brothers and sisters the entirekhutbathat
i want to give today is actuallybased upon a duaandit'sthat in some
manifestation getsattributed to the messengerbut there is no authentic chain
directlyto himbut a powerful supplicationfrom one of the salah from one of thepious
predecessorsand that is umand we know from the salaf that they hadtheir
connection with allah subhanahuta'ala and they had their way of callingupon
allah that is very instructive tousto think about the way they perceivedallah
subhanahu wa'ta'alaand the narration isnu sa'eed he says that kanna kathiranthat
what was frequently recited in durafrom umi'll read it very slowallahbelet me
be pleased and satisfied withwhat you have decreedand bless me in the decree
that is tocomeis what comesafter is something the divine decreewhich has
already manifested itselfqatar is what is still in the worksin this in this
context hereallah let me be pleased with what hasbeen decreed for meand make me
pleased with itand then bless me in the divine decreethat is to comeand then he
saysso that i do not lovethat anything that you have been delayedbe hastenednor
that something that has beenhastened be delayedoh allah please me with your
decreewabaraklifeand bless me in the decree that is tocomeand so that i do not
love that youhasten that which was meant to bedelayedand that you do not or
that i do notlovethat you delay what was hastened for methis dura if we break
it down isactually a phenomenal and a phenomenaldiagnosisof what usually
happens in thefrustration that a person has with allahif you look at our entireexistence
on this earthand this entire idea of a race againsttime every day we wake up
and we feellike we're rushed from this thing to thenext thing and we don't have
time andwe're trying to achieve this and tryingto achieve that and there's a
greatlevel of stress and especially when theefforts and the plans that you putforward
are either completely disruptedby something that is out of your controlor that
which you were pursuing is notcoming to you as it should be coming toyou with
your planningtimei want it now you think about the childin the car are we there
yet are we thereyet are we there yet and many times whenwe're making dua to
allahwe're implying is it there yet is itthere yet is it there yet and that'swhen
the prophet salallahu salaam saidmost people will give up on their duawhy
because they've made that same duraover and over again and it hasn'thappened
yetand at that very momentwhen it's about to come to youthe person saysi made
this i made this dura and itdidn't happen for meallah mentions those that are
beingwronged and harmed and oppressed andthey saywhen is the help of allah
going to comeand allah says about the oppressor orrather the prophet sallallahu
alaihiwasallam says about the oppressor inallahthat allah delaysthe oppressormeaning
what he allows that oppressor tocontinue in their oppression until theystart to
think that they're invincibleuntil they start to think thatthey're getting away
with it this isworking i'm not being held accountable ihave impunityand then
when allah snatches himhe does not let him go so both theoppressed is wondering
whenand the oppressor is pushing the limitsto see how far they can get with
thisand there's a time factor involved whenis this all going to collapse when
isthis all going to come to fruition whenis this going to happen when is thatgoing
to happen a person is pursuingmarriage when am i going to get marrieda person
is pursuing a career when am igoing to get that job when am i going toget that
opportunity a person you know acouple waiting for a family when is thatchild
going to come and then you havethe children when is this going tohappen with my
childall alongyou start to realizethatwe have to have a submission to allah'stimingallah's
planning as a whole his qatar asa wholebut his timingwhen allah subhanahu wa
ta'ala hasdecreed something to comeand there is something very profoundabout
this becauseas ibn jose rahima allah said if yusufalaihissalam focused on only
getting outof prisonthen he wouldn't have benefited fromwhat was actually
happening within theprisonand so when you're in a trial or ahardshipa person
becomes soeager for that hardship to end yeahallah when is this going to be
liftedthat if they don't pay attention they'remissing out on the unique
opportunitiesof that hardship to come close to allahsubhanahu wa ta'ala as he
said one ofthe salaf one of the pious predecessorsasked allah subhanahu ta'ala
in a dreamya allah how come this dua has not beenfulfilled yet and the answer
was ya abdio my servant i love to hear your voicei love to hear your voice in
dua andwhat were you what you were getting outof those moments of dura as the
delaywas happening was better than what youwere seeking in the immediate momentthe
delay became good for you becausewhat you attained in terms of faith andcharacter
in that delaywas far greater than what allah couldhave hastened for you in the
momentwhen you're in the midst of the trialallahpushes you towards certain
things oroffers you the potential to pushyourself towards certain thingsthe
entire time you're saying when whenwhenand it's important to take a step backand
say you know what while i'm askingallah subhanahu ta'ala for this trial tocome
to an end let me pay attention tothe unique opportunities that existwithin this
trialas the scholars mention when you'repursuing a blessingsometimes
subhanallah in the process ofpursuing a particular blessing weneglect the
blessings that already existaround us and i'm not just talking aboutthe idea of
health and the idea of youknow the the the concept of gratitudeand shukur for
what you havebut while you're in the pursuit of thisparticular thing if you
develop tunnelvision when is this going to happen whenam i going to get this
when am i goingto get that the other nerum in your lifeall have a timeline the
other blessingsall have a timelineand they're moving towards a sense ofexpirationso
your parents are getting olderwhile you're pursuing thisyour kids are getting
older while you'repursuing this with your careerthis is happening while this ishappening
and if i'm so focused on thisblessing that i'm in pursuit ofthen those
blessings are also moving ona timelineand i'm missing out on something hereand
to take a step back and sayinstead of when wait a minute what's allthis that's
already around me and how doi have a refreshed lens on a daily basisfor those
things and that's one of theblessings of shukur shukur refreshes thelens every
day on the niram that youhave in your lifeon the blessings that you have on
yourlife to make you say alhamdulillah allover again alhamdulillahalhamdulillah
you don't just sayalhamdulillah you have a salary you sayalhamdulillah every
time you have foodon the tableit refreshes the landsso that you realize what
i'm pursuing ifit's a halal pursuitshould not become such a focus and anobsession
for methat i worry about the time that it'sgoing to unlock itself that i lose
outon the limited time of the otherblessings that are around me whetherthat's
the people or the things that arearound meso to move on from whenand to
recognize subhanallah that thedelay that allah gives to us at times isthe
greatest designfor our livesof course allah azza sayshuman beings have been
created as whathasty hasty hastywe always want things now it's not justour
children that are always pushing andsaying when is it are we there yet is itover
yet am i going to get this yet whenwhen when it's us as wellin our own ways
with allah subhanahu wata'ala when when when when is this goingto happen when
is that going to happenand that doesn't mean that you don'tbecome an ambitious
personthat doesn't mean that you don'tcontinue to pursue what allah has madebut
that means that you submit yourselfto the timing that allah has put you onsubmit
yourself to his scheduleand stop seeing the delay as deprivationit's not
deprivationstop seeing the delay as denial it's notallah telling you nomany
times it's allah telling you notyet and it's for your own goodand by the time
you come around torealize that if you were not observingthe lessons of that
delay then the delaywould have gone to wastei'm sure zakariya salaam at some
pointasked well whenright but no there was a submissioni'm sure at some point
yusuf ali said iwondered but when how much longerthere's a submission to that
schedule asubmission to that time slot to say thatevery single delay that allah
is givingto meis a not yet not a noand that not yet could meanafter this life
is already over but it'sthereit's there allah subhanahu wa ta'alawill not let
you askwithout giving you it's therebut you have to waitand submitting yourself
to that timenow then go back to what umwas saying in his duaand he used to make
this dua frequentlyit's not something that they heard fromhim once upon a timeallah
let me be pleased with the decreeit's already happenedi'm not going to sit
there and say whydid this happen this way or why did thathappen alhamdulillahlet
me be pleased with it please me withwhat is hereand bless me in what is to comein
that decree that is to comehathaso that i only lovethings at their time so that
i do notwish for that which has been delayed tobe hastened nor that which has
beenhastened to be delayed you know i giveyou this example subhanallah it's
it's alot of times the tv references and themovie references and things come to
yourmind you know in those those movies andshows where someone gets stuck in anelevator
the electricity goes out andsuddenly two people are in an elevatortogetheror
they're in a room and the power goesout and suddenly you know we kind oflived
that movie here when we lost ourpower uh in the winter storm thathappened
before right and suddenlypeople have to actually talk to eachother and things
are frozen and put intoplace and then what ends up happeningwhen those people
are stuck together fora long time and they're not able tocontinue the rat race
of this dunya theyactually get to know each otherthey refresh their
relationship with oneanotherthere's a moment of pause that's forcedupon them
that they don't like initiallybut then once the pause is over andthings resumethey're
grateful for the pauseat the bare minimumthe blessing of that pause is yourreconnection
with allah subhanahu wata'alabecause there are very few peoplethat will call
upon allah with moresincerity and more connection and moredevotion and more
lovein their times of comfort as they willin their times of desperationat the
bare minimumthere is a pm that was induced there wasa tear that was induced
there was a duathat was inducedand the eyes that shed tears for thesake of
allah subhanahu wa ta'ala willnot touch the fireand the dura that is made from
the heartwill immediatelytransition and transcend and ascendthrough the heavens
till it reachesallah subhanahu tahalaand the thing that you asked for shouldit
be halal and in proper means willsurely be given to you in a way thatallah
knows is even better for youbut slow downdon't just submit yourself to allah'splan
submit yourself to allah's timingdon't just say i know allah is ablesay i know
allah knows whenwhen it's better for mebecauseamongst those that are pleased
with hisplanning that are pleased with histiming that see the blessings that
arearound them when they are obvious andwhen they are hidden may allah grant usfresh
hearts and fresh lenses that arealways able to appreciate the presenceand that
pursue what is the best forthem in the future may allah let ourfuture be
generated furdos and thecompanionship of our prophet sallallahualaihi wasallam
and may allah let ourpresence be jannatulthe paradise of certainty in our
heartsand may allah forgive us when wequestion him forgive us when we don'ttake
the gifts that he gives to us mayallah make us amongst those that aregrateful
to him in all circumstances andpatient with his decree in allcircumstances and
make us amongst thosewho are pleased with what has come to usand who are
blessed with what is yet tocome to us and make us amongst thosethat always are
in a state of hymnalways are in a state of praising himallahforeignyouenglish
